This post is stating on why we chose to use food in our final design concept to re-advertise Axe deodorant in Malaysia. Though food is not really related to deodorant we hope our explanation can help you further understand why we chose to use it.
Firstly, it is understood that Malaysians love their food. We have a multiracial community and we have exposure to all sorts of cuisine. Chinese, Indian, Malay. (Weins M. 2011) According to Mark Weins, a blogger for migrationology.com, he says :
“Eating (and loving) Malaysian food should be a prerequisite for anyone proclaiming to be a gastronome. The holy amalgamations of Malaysian flavors are strengthened, not only by fierce spices, but by a group of people that are intensely passionate about their cuisine."
Secondly, we are using the idea metaphorically on how food have odors and appearances just like how humans have. Based on our research, we found that while our initial attraction to someone may be physical, one of the true messengers of love is chemical. We’re attracted to people who have good smells, and repulsed by those with bad smells (Youbeauty, 2013). We would like to use this similar concept on our design through food.
