Mystery in Advertisements

Mystery in Advertising


To use mystery and abstruseness in an advertisement is to consider your target market and audience smarter than the other brands' and also your product. Bringing them to a bit of challenge to get the meaning of your ad. Why a bit? Because when it goes complicated, the audience have not much time to spend on it. When you add some mystery to your add, you consider your audience sharp and smart, so when they see the mystery in the ad, they consider it also as a smarter product than the others in the market( Holly Green, Forbes). No matter you are selling a worse product than the others, they will buy yours, because people pay for design and class. Like Starbucks and Coffee and any other Coffee shop. Maybe other coffee shops sell a better coffee, but people buy more from Starbucks because of the class and the lifestyle it sells( Store Design, www.starbucks.com.my).

Then sees the Pringles Logo and figures out the ad.Ads for : Pringles Hot & Spicy



A thief tried to break in( Silence)
A Man with Crashes( Alarm) 
So
It is about a car alarm company


In some advertisements the designer can mention two or more meanings; one obvious and one ambiguous. It's like the Queen tape played backwards, Coke Advertisement's Anti-Islam message. The thing is that most of the time the companies and the designers of these sort of ads deny the second meaning which is mainly an obscene message. They may really not mean it and some stalker found it out. God knows. That's why it's called mystery in advertising. Advertising may look simple to many, but must of meanings for those who think and pay attention.
